Kim McBrien Evans designs clothes she loves and wants to wear, and wants to ensure you feel the same. It takes a combination of creativity, observation, a lot of careful planning, and just a touch of chaos to get from yarn to finished garment and a pattern that suits as many people as possible. How do you design for bodies that aren’t yours? And as makers, how can we feel more confident about the garments we make for ourselves, making a handmade wardrobe that fits our bodies and suits our personal style? 

Join Kim as she talks about all of this and shows how she uses personal fashion illustration templates from  to “try on” sweaters before she makes them.

Curiosity and exploration is the focus of Canadian knitwear designer and indie hand dyer, Kim McBrien Evans. A lifelong love of colour, texture, pattern, and shape prompted Kim to transition from working artist to textile maven. Her knitwear designs are known for their ability to turn an abstract idea into a wearable reality while simultaneously fitting and complimenting a wide range of bodies. She lives and works in the woods of Central Ontario, Canada.

Her yarn company, Indigodragonfly, is renowned for its vibrant colours, offbeat names, and ever expanding plan for world domination. She is co-author of Custom Shawls for the Curious and Creative Knitter (with Kate Atherley). Her work has appeared in Vogue Knitting, Knitscene, Knit.Wear, Knitting Magazine (UK), A Stash of One’s Own (ed. Clara Parkes), The Sewcialists, Digits & Threads, and Uppercase.

What are Fiberside Chats?

Launched in May of 2020 by Longmont Yarn Shoppe, Fiberside Chats are gatherings hosted on Zoom. These Zoom meeting are typically one-hour chats with special guests from the fiber community giving us a peek into their world. These designers and creators will discuss their unique path, creative processes, latest projects—or whatever is inspiring them now. There will also be a Q&A session, giveaways, and other fun surprises for those who join!

Fiberside Chats cost $20 to register. To register, you can go directly to Longmont Yarn Shoppe's website. You then can choose any participating yarn shops to assign your registration fee.
