Taylor Swift Cardigan Club - Spring 2024
Host: Kate Smith
Join the next Taylor Swift Cardigan Club! Fellow Swifties will meet on select Thursday mornings for a time to “shake it off", knit, chat, and listen to Taylor’s music while the shop is closed to the public.
We’ll each knit the Folklore Cardigan (free pattern!) and Kate, one of our talented shopkeepers/instructors will be there to DJ and answer all your pattern and technique questions along the way. (Note: There is a similar DK-weight version of the Folklore Cardigan that you could choose instead.)
Not sure if you’re “Fearless” enough for this? We think that if you know how to cast on, knit, and purl, then YOU CAN DO THIS SWEATER!
Yarn for the Folklore Cardigan must be bought from The Craftivist, but all members of the Club get 10% off your purchase of materials! We can help you pick out materials beforehand, or Kate can help you make selections at the first meetup.
At our final meeting (June 6), we’ll take a group photo to celebrate our work. "We never go out of style!" ;)
Over 4 months, we'll meet on eight Thursday mornings from 10 am to Noon:
Feb. 8
Feb. 22
March 21
April 11
April 25
May 9
May 23
June 6
Please note: This is not an opportunity to learn to knit or crochet for the first time. Check out our classes for Introduction to Knitting classes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What skills are needed for this project?
As you follow the pattern (and with Kate’s help, as needed!), you'll explore knitting cables and buttonholes, piecing together a garment, basic increases/decreases, picking up stitches, and reading charts vs. written instructions. By the end, we think you’ll be a MASTERMIND at cables!
What yarn do you recommend?
What yarn do you recommend? Your yarn must come from The Craftivist. Make sure to mention that you’re doing the KAL - you’ll get 10% off! For the worsted-weight version, we recommend Brooklyn Tweed Shelter, Malabrigo Rios, Malabrigo Worsted, or Manos Del Uruguay Maxima. For the DK version, our top pick is Brooklyn Tweed Arbor. After you sign up, you’ll receive more info on selecting yarn for your project. And, if the colorway you would like is not currently in stock at The Craftivist, let us know and we may be able to order it for you.
When can I cast on and get started?
Whenever you’d like! This is more a social, community-building event than a class. In this knit along (or KAL, for short) you’ll work at your own pace. You don’t need to wait for the first gathering to begin, but you can if you want! After registration, Kate will send you sample checkpoints, showing when you might want to complete parts of the project to finish on time, but you get to decide how you approach it.
What if I miss one of the gatherings?
No problem! There is no specific agenda or topics covered at each meetup. Instead, questions are answered, if needed. Mostly, we work on our projects, and chat about our lives and interests (knitting, Taylor Swift, etc.).
What if I have questions between the scheduled meetings?
You have several options. You can drop in on one of our four free knit and crochet togethers each week. A fellow knitter may have some tips, and one of the teachers working in the shop may be able to help, if they are not assisting shoppers. For one-on-one time with a teacher, book a quick 30-minute help session, or a 1-hour lesson. You can find all of these options on our Classes & Events page. Plus, after you register, Kate will send links to videos that can provide some extra support with the trickier parts.
What do I get with my registration fee?
The registration fee covers access to all eight gatherings, and assistance from Kate at those gatherings.
Is there a way to join the group virtually or online?
No, we will only be meeting in person on the dates listed.
What ages can attend?
This gathering is for adults. If your child or teen would like support on making the cardigan, please check out our 1-hour private lessons.

This event takes place in person and masks are now optional. If community transmission rises we may encourage or require masks for the safety of our students and staff. Please stay home if you are feeling sick! Thanks for your support and for helping to keep our community safe.

Class Policies: Payment guarantees your spot in the class. Payment may be made in the store, over the phone, or through our website. Unless noted, supplies are not included in the class fee. Yarn must be purchased at The Craftivist. Students receive a 10% discount on materials purchased for the class.

Cancellations: If you need to cancel your registration, store credit will be given for cancellations up to 7 days prior to the beginning of a class; no refunds will be given if the cancellation is less than 7 days. Refunds are not given for missed classes.

If we do not fill our class minimum the class will be cancelled and students will be issued a full refund. We will notify students of class cancellations at least 24 hours before the first class.
