Led by Vincent Williams of Visuvio's Crafts, students will learn the tools and mechanics of cable knitting, including how cables impact gauge & tension, creating cable crosses/twists of different sizes, reading your fabric for how to count rows & stitches, reading written cable instructions, reading cable charts, finishing techniques and more.  Together students will knit the Bergamot Beanie by Vincent Williams and have a completed hat by the end of this 4-session course!

Purchase before the start of class: 

  • Bergamot Beanie from Visuvios Crafts website or Ravelry
  • 208 yards of DK weight yarn
  • (1) US 4/3.5 mm - 16" circular needle
  • (1) US 6/4.0 mm - 16" circular needle
  • (1) US 6/4.0 mm - 32 or 40" circular needles OR (1) set of US 6/4.0 mm - double pointed needles (to be used in the third class session for the small circumference work at the crown of the beanie)
  • Cable needle (Vincent prefers the “J” shaped cable needles, but all shapes of cable needles will be perfect for knitting cables)
  • tapestry needle
  • 2 stitch markers
  • Faux fur pom pom OR pom pom maker to create a yarn pom pom with your leftover hat yarn

Skills learned will be:

  • (Optional) Tubular Cast On
  • Knitting cables flat
  • Knitting cables in the round
  • How to use a cable needle
  • When you can choose to knit cables without using a cable needle
  • Reading cable knitting charts
  • Reading written/non-charted cable knitting instructions.
  • Make 1 left, Make 1 right, Make 1 purlwise, and yarn over increases
  • K2tog, SSK, P2tog, SK2P, and K3tog decreases
  • Knitting with double pointed needles OR magic loop for working in small circumferences
  • Attaching a faux fur pom pom or creating & attaching a yarn pom pom
