Introduction to Knitting: Hat’s a Wrap

This 4-week Introduction to Knitting course will teach you the basics of knitting through a knit a long group project. Together we will knit the Basic Beanie from Tin Can Knits. This pattern includes several sizes and several ribbed options. You will be able to customize the hat to your liking! You will have a completed hat at the end of the class, and the knitting skills to make many more--they make great gifts!
Purchase before the start of class:
- Basic Beanie pattern by Tin Can Knits
- 1 skein (200 yards) of Malabrigo Rios, Rios Solidos, or Urth Uneek worsted weight yarn
- 1 US 6 - 16" circular needle (pattern calls for a US 5, but we recommend a size 6);
- darning needle & stitch markers
- US 6 double pointed needles OR US 6 fixed circular needle 32" or larger (wait until the third class to purchase)
Skills learned will be:
- How to Read a Pattern;
- Casting on (long tail method);
- Knit and Purl Stitches;
- Knitting in the round;
- Knitting with double pointed needles OR magic loop for working in small circumferences;
- Binding off, weaving in ends, and finishing.
Materials must be bought at The Craftivist. Students will receive a 10% discount on the cost of class supplies.
Class Policies: Payment guarantees your spot in the class. Payment may be made in the store, over the phone, or through our website. Unless noted, supplies are not included in the class fee. Yarn must be purchased at The Craftivist. Students receive a 10% discount on materials purchased for the class.
Cancellations: If you need to cancel your registration, store credit will be given for cancellations up to 7 days prior to the beginning of a class; no refunds will be given if the cancellation is less than 7 days. Refunds are not given for missed classes.
If we do not fill our class minimum the class will be cancelled and students will be issued a full refund. We will notify students of class cancellations at least 24 hours before the first class.
